Residences at WindChime of Marin
Designed specifically for Alzheimer’s and dementia support, the living spaces at WindChime of Marin are intentionally crafted to feel calm, familiar, and deeply personal. Private apartments and companion suites are thoughtfully engineered to reduce anxiety, encourage autonomy, and support daily routines with ease. Rather than a clinical or institutional atmosphere, the Kentfield community embraces a true residential environment, one that feels warm, welcoming, and reassuring for both residents and their families.

The architectural design of WindChime of Marin prioritizes a sense of continuity and "wayfinding" to ease the daily navigation of its residents. By utilizing a circular floor plan, the community eliminates dead-end hallways, which often cause confusion or anxiety for those with memory impairment. High-contrast colors and distinct landmarks, known as Reminiscence Anchors, are strategically placed throughout the corridors to help residents naturally orient themselves as they move between their private suites and the communal living areas.
The transition from private to public space is bridged by the community’s "Elevate Dining" program and various social hubs. Meals are treated as social events rather than just nutrition, with a focus on seasonal, chef-prepared menus that can be customized to specific dietary needs or sensory preferences. These shared spaces, including the fireside living room and the media center, are designed with a boutique aesthetic, using warm lighting and comfortable furniture to maintain a residential feel that avoids a clinical or hospital-like atmosphere.
Outdoor living is equally integrated into the residence through the secure, landscaped courtyard. This area serves as a safe extension of the living space, allowing residents to enjoy the fresh Marin County air and views of Mt. Tamalpais without the safety risks associated with wandering. The courtyard features walking paths and sensory gardens where residents can engage in supervised gardening or simply sit quietly, ensuring that their living environment remains as expansive and stimulating as possible within a protected perimeter.
