MaryEllen Marshall

MaryEllen Marshall
Concierge

Hi, I’m MaryEllen Marshall the Concierge. You can find me at the front desk handing out keys, answering questions, and helping people connect at WindChime.

I’ve been living in Marin since 2008. Previously I worked in Enrollment Services at College of Marin and have volunteered with WildCare in San Rafael. I love living in Marin and can often be found enjoying live music in Fairfax or exploring the hidden corners of West Marin.

I have lived and traveled all over the USA. I started out in Connecticut, where I grew up and went to school. Then I moved to Dallas, TX, where I was a high school science teacher for a few years before relocating to California. I lived in San Francisco and had fun working at The Exploratorium. I was also The Bug Lady, bringing live insects to Bay Area classrooms for hands on demonstrations on the wonders of species diversity, and spent some time working in veterinary clinics around the city. Here at WindChime, I make sure our community birds get lots of care and attention.

In my spare time I like to crochet, study astrology, and snuggle with my cats. I find it very rewarding to be part of the WindChime community.

John Civil

John Civil
Resident Care Director

With 18 years of experience in both academe and in the healthcare industry, I have built a passionate and dynamic career at the intersection of education, clinical practice, and leadership. I have served as an Assistant Professor at both undergraduate and graduate levels, holding various administrative positions that reflect my commitment to academic excellence and organizational advancement.

I am a master’s degree holder, however currently on LOA from graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University. Now that I am in elderly care, I would like to continue to make an impact through hands-on clinical engagement and scholastic contributions. I am collaborating on a future publication centered on memory care and geriatric nursing—an area I am deeply passionate about.

My career has gradually taken shape with a clear purpose. When I see elderly people, it brings to mind my grandparents, especially my grandmother, and my parents, who are approaching the later stages of their lives. My heart is deeply connected to them, and I believe my faith has led me to this point, guiding me to fulfill this mission.

Carolyn Bopp

Carolyn Bopp
Director of Sales

I was born in Munich, Germany, where I studied Communication and Marketing Psychology. My career began in Advertising and Market Research but for the last 10 years I have dedicated my time and passion to building a community in Marin County. Through my outreach work at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation and my role as Membership and Program Director at the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, I gained exceptional customer service experience and the ability to deepen relationships. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse population, from State Senator to senior residents. Recently I have focused my Business Development skills on the growing market of Senior Communities. This has enabled me to provide tailored compassionate service offerings for families and their loved ones.

I'm a champion for diversity and inclusion and can inspire people to achieve their full potential. I'm honored to work at WindChime of Marin with such a skilled and passionate team.

The WindChime grounds

Everyone is so nice, so open, so caring, so generous.

When you're at the stage of looking at memory care for your loved one, you already know how important it is to not only find a safe and healthy place to go, but you want to ensure the highest quality of life possible. That's WindChime. My beloved mother fiercely guarded her independence. The pandemic took a toll on her dementia and mental health just as it affected everyone else. She refused to even talk about memory care. Her catastrophic event came in the form of an 11-day 5150 hold…
